Combat Systems Directorate


The Combat Systems Directorate facilitates the Army modernization enterprise’s efforts to refine, engineer, integrate and produce developed solutions to meet identified requirements. The Combat Systems Directorate maintains oversight of the cost, schedule, integration, and technical performance of all programs aligned within and between the Army’s cross-functional team efforts.

CSD is the focal point in AFC for integration and synchronization with United States Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology and the 12 Program Executive Offices.


Thomas H. Todd, III

Deputy Commanding General for Acquisition and Systems and Chief Innovation Officer, Army Futures Command

Lt. Gen. Thomas H. Todd III leads acquisition and systems management activities at the command, ensuring forward-leaning collaboration with tech industry leaders and access to cutting-edge technology solutions.

Todd is a graduate of Alabama’s Marion Military Institute and The Citadel, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, and holds master’s degrees in contract management and strategic studies from the Florida Institute of Technology and the U.S. Air War College, respectively. He commissioned into the Army in 1989 and went on to serve in multiple leadership roles. Todd is an honor graduate of the Army’s Initial Entry Rotary Wing training and a graduate of the Kiowa and Black Hawk Maintenance Test Pilot courses.
