CSD Combat Systems Directorate


The Combat Systems Directorate facilitates the Army modernization enterprise’s efforts to refine, engineer, integrate and produce developed solutions to meet identified requirements. The Combat Systems Directorate maintains oversight of the cost, schedule, integration, and technical performance of all programs aligned within and between the Army’s cross-functional team efforts.

CSD is the focal point in AFC for integration and synchronization with United States Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology and the 12 Program Executive Offices.

Director for Combat Systems Directorate

Maj. Gen. Patrick W. Burden is the director for Combat Systems Directorate at the U.S. Army Futures Command. He was commissioned in the U.S. Army and entered active duty in 1987. His tactical assignments have included stations in Germany, Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan. He deployed for Operations Desert Shield and Storm in 1991, and he served as the deputy commanding general at the Combined Security Transition Command for Headquarters, Resolute Support in Kabul, Afghanistan. His many assignments have leveraged his expertise in acquisitions, information systems, communications, transportation, aviation electronics and information warfare,

Patrick holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Alabama A&M University and a master’s degree in management information systems from Florida Institute of Technology. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College; the Armed Forces Staff College; the Advanced Program Management Course at the Defense Systems Management College; and the U.S. Army Senior Service College Fellowship Program at the University of Texas at Austin.
