The Combat Systems Directorate facilitates the Army modernization enterprise’s efforts to refine, engineer, integrate and produce developed solutions to meet identified requirements. The Combat Systems Directorate maintains oversight of the cost, schedule, integration, and technical performance of all programs aligned within and between the Army’s cross-functional team efforts.

CSD is the focal point in AFC for integration and synchronization with United States Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology and the 12 Program Executive Offices.


Deputy Commanding General
Thomas H. Todd, III

Director for Combat Systems Directorate

LTG Thomas H. Todd, III began serving as the Deputy Commanding General for Acquisition and Systems Management at the U.S. Army Futures Command in Austin, Texas in July 2020.

Todd is a graduate of the Marion Military Institute (HS 1985) and The Citadel. In 1989, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant upon graduation from The Citadel, where he earned a bachelor of science in business administration. He is an honor graduate of the Army’s Initial Entry Rotary Wing training and a graduate of the Kiowa and Black Hawk Maintenance Test Pilot courses, and numerous other field grade courses. He holds multiple masters of science degrees in contract management and strategic studies from the Florida Institute of Technology and the U.S. Air War College, respectively.
